The Adventures of Bug and Boo

Grateful for An Awesome Month

Rebecca O'LoughlinComment

Some months it feels like there's very little happening outside the norm, and it's just passed by without too much of interest or note. And other months it seems as though there's a laundry list of all of the atypical, exciting things that occurred - last month was one of the latter! Here are some of the more awesome things I enjoyed in the past month:

I read a book! In my pre-parent life this would not have been even a blip on the radar but there's so little time these days - unless I actively carve it out - that last year I only read three books in total. But I decided I ought to be spending the free time that I *do* have on the things I truly love; one of those is reading. I read Haunted Ground by Erin Hart, a book my sister & brother-in-law gave me for Christmas. I loved it!

I attended a beautiful baby shower for a sweet friend!

Fell in love with the handmade mason jar centerpieces...aren't they beautiful!?

Amazingly mild winter weatherSeriously...this is so different to last year, I can't even wrap my head around it. But it's been wonderful!

I saw my bestie - and her first baby! My BFF from middle school lives out in California, where I've never visited her (although this is changing THIS MONTH - stay tuned!!) and I hadn't seen her in a couple of years. Our last in-person catchup was when Bug was very little and she was in London for work. Well she brought her newborn baby out to see her grandparents here a few weeks ago and I got to gate crash a little of their time together - it was fabulous to see her and meet her sweet babe!

Learning how to use my camera! I've been playing with my camera a lot more since the start of the year and I'm loving the crispness I get from the photos that even *I* take on it. I still haven't been brave enough to come off the auto setting and attempt the manual ones but that will come (after a demo from my sister, hopefully...!)

There's really no comparison between my phone pics and what this DSLR can do...!

Peanut is nearly walking...! She has become MUCH more mobile - crawling at the speed of light, climbing all of the stairs within two minutes - and chatty! She started saying a couple new words, clinking cups for "cheers," doing high fives, clicking her tongue, and in the last few days she's started power walking with an upright toy on wheels! It's all go from here...

More progress being made on our home! We had two rooms painted just after the holidays - and I'm delighted that this means the two room colors that I hated the most are now gone!! Our front family room was a horrible mustard yellow; it is now the same light shade of grey as the recently painted back sitting room. And the dining room was a dark maroon on the top with a textured white wallpaper on the bottom; it is now a crisp white on the top half and a paler shade of grey with slight taupe undertones on the bottom half. Those two rooms get the least light in the house so I never understood the dark choice in the dining room. They look SO much fresher and brighter!

I blogged - several times! Amazing, especially after such an unintended hiatus last Fall.

TWO date nights! One was a truly wonderful romantic evening at a restaurant that we both love, and the other was a brilliant couples date night with four other friends where we had so much fun checking out January's Datebox... (all the details to be shared in a later post!) ;)

Trying out Hello Fresh! I've loved this service. Each week an ice-pack-filled box arrives (they are reusable so I toss them in the freezer for future picnics) and inside is everything you need for three meals that week, including the recipe card showing photos of the steps and a description of how long it will take and what difficulty level it is. You can select your 3 meals each week ahead of time, choosing from 5 options, and not only does it mean I don't need to do a giant grocery shop each week, but we also get to try completely new recipes constantly! I'm a big fan of trying new things and excluding one dish, we've loved all of the meals we've tried. (*This is not a paid advert by the way, I just really like it. :) If you want to test this out, let me know - I have 3 completely free boxes to gift to others!)

My very first parent-teacher conference! This was for Bug's 2-year-old program! Oh my gosh it was so fun to hear about what she is like in class. The first word they used to describe her? EXUBERANT. I mean, could there be any better word to describe my kiddo?! :)  I could picture all of the little behaviors that the teachers were describing to me. It was really validating to know as well that the things we see as her strengths are seen by others as the same too. I thought it was funny how the areas we work on at home as 'room for improvement' don't come across the same way when she's not at home. Kids really are better behaved when they're at school I guess! I am saving her feedback form for her baby book because it's just so sweet.

One Little Word (OLW)! I joined the workshop for the first time. It's an awesome way of committing to your word of the year, and through it you work on prompts each month that relate to your word and how you're incorporating it into your life. It's my first attempt at anything like scrapbooking and I really enjoyed the first month - and in one month alone I've already reflected on my word of the year ("do") much more than my 2015 word all of last year!

ME Time! M and I started a new thing where I take off for a few hours on Saturday for a bit of 'me time' - I felt guilty for needing it, but it's done such wonders for me and my level of patience starting the next week off, and it refreshes and recharges me each time. In the last few weeks I've gotten to have a long, chilled out meal with a friend, I cashed in my birthday present of a spa massage, and met up with my mom for an impromptu coffee date!

Baby Number THREE....!! Lastly, but nowhere near the least, we are so excited to be expecting another little one this summer!! And for the very first time we decided to find out just what we're having rather than have a 3rd surprise. Baby cooperated at the scan a few weeks ago and we found out that Baby #3 is going to be a.......
