The Adventures of Bug and Boo

Bug's Bedroom Redesign - Pinspiration & Part 1

Today is a big deal...I am going out to dinner, sans husband and sans kiddos! I joined a local mom & baby group a little while back, but I haven't had a chance to meet up with anyone yet for a play date. Seems a tad strange since I won't know anyone yet but the stars aligned and I'm able to go tonight so off I go...hopefully Peanut and Bug go to bed easily for daddy tonight! Say a prayer for him if you think of it. ;)

Speaking of bedtime, Bug's bedroom is coming along nicely. Having lived in rentals my entire adult life I've only dreamt about choosing paint colors and fixtures...but now that we've moved into a house we own, we get to play interior decorator! You'd think this would mean I'd know exactly how I want everything to look, but funnily enough I find it difficult to picture something from scratch. I suppose I'm not that creative visually. So I do what any person in my position would do, and I take to the wonderful Pinterest for inspiration.

Bug's room is my first real top-to-bottom venture. She's getting bigger and soon will be in a toddler bed (although I will keep her in a crib as long as possible as I just KNOW she will be one of those kids who gets out of bed constantly and we look over and see her on the stairs!). In our last (rented) house, we decorated before she was born so we went entirely neutral with cream walls, light wooden furniture, and some multicolored wall decals of trees and owls. Now we get to create a room that she can help choose the features of, and she has looked at paint colors with me, picked out her new bed, and told me all of the various things she wants in her room. :)

The room we picked for her is the slightly larger one, which had been decorated fairly neutrally but all just a bit dark for my taste. The walls were this purply grey, and the 4th wall had a wallpaper mural of the earth from space on it. Cool, yes - but it was peeling and damaged, and didn't really mesh with my ideas for Bug's new space...

...so my awesome dad removed the 'earth' wallpaper, sanded and primed the walls, painted the ceiling and all the trim again, prepping it for the color which I was having a tough time narrowing down.

Paint phase 1 - the mural is gone!

Bug decided she wanted a pink room, and I found some beautiful ideas on Pinterest (above) that I thought would look nice for a child but also be able to 'grow' with her. As you can see I like the pink / grey / white combination, so we decided on muted pink walls with white trim, and we picked out some beautiful grey-washed furniture to go with it. (The furniture is a story unto itself - order delays, wrong deliveries, damaged pieces...argh! - but it should be sorted out soon.)

Paint phase 2 - white & a hint of pink

I can't wait to see how it turns out! The correct furniture has finally arrived except for the toddler rails, so I just need to wipe it all down and start arranging her little tchotchkes and books, find places for the prints I want to frame and hang, and then it should be done!

What do you think of the color? Do you have a tough time deciding how to decorate, or does it all come naturally to you?
