I think I might be the only person who never got on board with the maxi dress movement! Even after it became really popular and they were everywhere in shops, I never even tried one on - I just figured that the shape wouldn't suit or flatter me. But I found a maternity one on sale at Old Navy, in a simple tank form in charcoal grey, and I thought I could probably work with it even after it gets colder. Anything comfortable is a win in pregnancy, especially later on, and if I layer it with a long sleeve blouse or a sweater even, it could look like a skirt instead of a dress...so I went for it. I ordered it, and it arrived, and I tried it on.....and I LOVE it!!! It is so stupidly comfortable, I totally understand the appeal now.
It's a little too roomy at the moment, but it's nice to know that there is space to keep wearing as the bump expands (side ruching to allow for growth). It seems pretty easy to dress up or down, and at only 1 piece, it's just easy full stop! My 'creative' closet contribution was the borrowing of the black sandals from my mom's closet ha - I seriously need to figure out which box has all my shoes in it!
My regular 'photographer' is working in Boston this week so I've only managed to get one usable snap of the outfit, plus the selfie ha - but you get the gist. I'll try to have better ones next week! (Bug saw the camera and ran over, mimicked my pose haha!)
I can't wait to play with this 'base' piece for other outfits now! How do you style a maxi dress? I'd love to hear tips and ideas! :)
