If you've ever stopped by on a Tuesday in the last few months, you've probably experienced my pretend forays into fashion blogging. ;) Having come across Jana and Maegan's idea for the Creative Closet linkup a few months ago, I thought it was a great opportunity to reimagine my wardrobe and find new uses for the clothes I already had, especially given the unintentional downslide into my new mama's boring/default 'uniform' of jeans and tees. Then I got pregnant. Ha! But it turns out pregnant women need to be creative too, or I'd end up yet again wearing the same thing every day. So each week I get a prompt that makes me think just a little bit harder about what I wear that fits the category, and how I can make it more interesting or even put together a few pieces that I hadn't considered together before. Even if I'm frustrated for a few minutes because I can't think of an outfit straight away, I always enjoy the challenge in the end!
Happily, this week's prompt is "Classic Black" - one which most women would enjoy! Not only is black slimming (can I get a 'hooray' for the prego?!), it provides the perfect neutral base to highlight nearly any other color or jewelry. There are SO many ways to wear black (and in my first 2 years working in Manhattan I probably tried them all..). However, in keeping with my true inner fashion style I kept it simple with a black v-neck tee and skinny jeggings (both maternity), adding a little 'fun' with the patterned open cardigan from my new favorite online shop, star-studded flats, and a pendant necklace. Easy, clean, and oh so comfortable!
Is black one of your wardrobe staples? What's your favorite way to style a black outfit?
